Nominations closed

Nominations for the 2012 Great Places in Louisiana Awards Program are closed. Judges will convene near the end of May to discuss entries and we will follow up shortly thereafter with our entrants.

A big thanks to everyone who applied! We have a great cross-section of people, programs and communities from across the state and look forward to a fantastic reception and awards ceremony during the Smart Growth Summit on the evening of August 28th in the Gallery at the Manship Theatre.

Deadline extended! Now May 4th

The entry deadline has been extended to Friday, May 4th! The Great Places Judging panel will not be gathering until the end of May, so we have decided to extend the entry deadline to Friday, May 4th at 11:59 PM. This new deadline will still allow our administrators to assemble judge packets and coordinate the program while giving potential nominees a little more time to submit. Those who have created all the great entries to date will be permitted to update or add images for their current submissions.

So please take advantage of this opportunity and submit your Great Louisiana Place right here!

Great Places in Louisiana 2012!

We have officially launched the 3nd annual Great Places in Louisiana awards program!

The first two years of the award was a huge success, highlighting great places across the state, but there are plenty of great Louisiana places yet to be recognized, so please nominate your great place today! Entries are due by April 15th at 11:59 PM.

To learn more about the awards program before submitting, please read the About page. If you still have questions, contact us.

Three communities or organizations (nominees, not nominators) will be chosen and recognized as Great Places and will receive $1,500 award. Each winner will also receive an attractive plaque with their project name and the Great Places logo to display their achievement. It will be up to those communities to decide how to spend the money.

Finally, winners will be recognized at the highly visible 2012 Louisiana Smart Growth Summit in Baton Rouge on August 27th-29th, where communities will be showcased during a special reception. Winning communities will be asked to send a representative to showcase the work being done in the community. Poster presentations will be paid for as well as travel expenses to the summit.
